Making your first calls
You'll find details of tariffs and Service
Features in the Broadband Voice User
Guide. Here we'll concentrate of the most
important points.
Notes for Pre-pay customers
Pick up your handset and dial out as normal
to make a call. If you are on the pre-pay
option, then the first time you do this each
day you will hear a message advising you
of the current call credits on your account.
This message is played to you just before
the call connects.
Credits on the pre-pay service are used
up by the chargeable calls that you make,
but evening and weekend UK calls for up
to one hour for each call are free.
All other call types (such as daytime UK,
all international and calls to mobiles) will be
charged at the advertised rates. If you've
used up all your credits you won't be able to
make chargeable calls but you can always
easily top up your credits online. Just go to
http://bt.com/broadbandvoice/youraccount
(you'll need your Broadband Voice
UserName/E-mail address and Broadband
Voice Website Account login/password to
hand (note: not Voice Password).
The minimum top up is £5, while the
maximum balance you can maintain is £200.

Fax
Fax will work in Phone port 1, provided that
the high bandwidth option is selected.
Note however that if Broadband Voice is
used for fax then it is inadvisable to connect
the line socket to the PSTN since a fax
machine set to auto-answer will then
respond to the PSTN line being called.
Compatible Telephones
Unfortunately the FDX 840 does have
limitations with respect to the ability to
support Caller Display. Not all telephones
support this feature when connected to
the FDX 840.
Telephones that do support Caller Display
on the FDX 840 on a best effort basis are:
• Diverse range of DECT phones e.g.
40XX, 52XX, 53XX, x10
• BT Studio 100, 500
• BT Freestyle 2500
• Lyric 1200
• CD1500 Caller Display unit
• Relate SMS
Telephones that are equipped with Caller
Display function but do not display the
Caller Identity on the FDX 840 are:
• Diverse 30XX
• Decor 310
• Synergy 3100, 3500
• Converse e.g. 425
• BT On-air 2100 SMS
• Relate SMS
• Quartet 3500 (This phone is not
compatible with the Broadband
Voice service)
There are many telephones available on
the market and BT cannot guarantee a
particular handset will support the Caller
Display function correctly on Broadband
Voice. It is proposed that if Caller Display
is required that one of the handsets in
the supported list above is used, or that
a device like the CD1500 is used in
conjunction with your chosen handset.
Note that if the Broadband Voice phone
rings as a result of the PSTN number
being called (due to the LINE port being
connected to the PSTN) then the Caller
Display will not show the Calling Number.
The Calling Number is only displayed
when the 05 number itself is called.
