Step by step set up guide

Step 14
Click "Continue" in order to progress and
save the current settings. You will then be
asked to restart the FDX 840. Click "Yes"
to this. The FDX 840 will then reboot.
If your WEB browser reports that "The
page cannot be displayed" then simply
refresh the page. You will then be asked
for your FDX 840 User Name and password
again which will now be your e-mail
address and Broadband Voice website
account login password, as entered in
Step 1 of the Wizard.
Observe the Status / Alarm light on the
front of the FDX 840. It will continue to
flash red intermittently for up to two
minutes and then it should turn steady
green. If it continues to flash red after 2
minutes then you have not successfully
registered with the Broadband Voice
service. You should then consult the next
section (Troubleshooting).

Provided the Status / Alarm light is steady
green, then lift the Broadband Voice
handset and check for dial tone. Check also
that the Hook / Ring light under Phone 1 on
the front of the FDX is illuminated, but the
PSTN light is extinguished.
If you have connected the LINE port to your
normal telephone service, then flick the
micro-switch on the rear of the FDX 840 to
"PSTN", and check for dial tone. This time
check that both the Hook / Ring and PSTN
lights illuminate.
Finally flick the micro-switch back to "VoIP"
and the service is ready to use!

Troubleshooting

If you do not get dial tone (with the optional
PSTN "line" port disconnected) and the
Status / Alarm light flashes red then:
a Connect a PC directly into the LAN
port of the FDX 840. Load up your
WEB browser.
b Check that you can access the internet.
Choose a site that you have not accessed
before e.g. using a search engine.
(otherwise your browser may load
a page that has been cached in your
machine). This proves that the FDX 840
can talk to the internet via your cable
modem/ADSL router. If you cannot
access the internet then it is possible
that IP addresses have not been allocated
correctly between the devices. Power
down the Cable Modem/ADSL Router,
FDX 840 and PC, and re-power in the
sequence (1) the Cable Modem/ADSL
Router (2) FDX 840 and (3) PC. Give
each device 2 minutes to stabilize
before powering up the next device.
Now re-check the Status / Alarm light
on the FDX 840 and check also if you
can now access the internet.
c If the Internet is accessible from the FDX
840 but you still get no Broadband Voice
dial tone (Status / Alarm light still flashing
red) then check your Voice Password has
been entered correctly. A single mistake
in the 28 character entry will result in no
dial tone. Remember all letters need to
be in capitals. There should be no
preceding or trailing spaces.
Cable customers that supplied a MAC
address to their ISP should also double
check the address that is registered
with their provider. Then check that
this corresponds accurately with the
address entered in the Wizard.
Type 192.168.192.1 into your Web
browser address bar and enter your
User Name / Password when prompted.
Go through the Wizard again and
check your Voice Password and MAC
address (for cable customers) carefully.
If correct then continue to the end of
the Wizard and exit the Wizard (abandon
changes). If you need to adjust any
values then complete the Wizard and
restart the device.
