ring. While

crankshaft
forward, pry the
thrust
bearing cap to
the
rear. This
will

thrust
sur
faces
o
f both
ha
lves
of
the bearing.
R etain
the forward
pressure
on
the
crankshaft,
and
tighten
the cap bolts to
specifications.
Check t he cran ksha ft end
play.

Remove the rear ma

bearing
and
journal
oil seal
from
the cy

emove
the
old seal-
ing material,
and
clean the
seal
groove in

seal
retain-
ing ca p.

emove the
oil seal
retaining
cap
to
block
seals.
Install
a
new journa
l oil seal
in the
cylinder
block
as
shown in fi
g. 39. The
cylinder block
journa
l seal
and
the reta ining ca
p
journal
seal
must
be
cut flush
with-
out
any
frayed
edges overlapping.
Install
a new
journal
seal
in
the
oil
seal
retaining
cap
as
shown in fi
g.
40.
Install
new
retaining
cap
to
cyli nder
block
seals
with
an O.O BO-inch
overlap.
Lubricate the
seals with
grease
to reduce friction.
