In the case of a patient swallowing an image plate or a part of one then a doctor must be consulted immedi- ately and the image plate removed.

Theimageplateshouldbeplacedinthe patent'smouthsothatthesymbolwill notaffectthediagnosticusefulnessof theX-rayexposure. •Placetheimageplateinsidethelightprotec- tioncoverasnormalintothepatient'smouth. Thesilverpointontheinactivesidemustface theocclusalarea.Theactivesideoftheimage platemustpointinthedirectionoftheX-ray tube. Damage to the image plate Only use handling systems which will not cause any damage to either the light protection cover or the image plates.

Damage to the VistaScan Perio Plus Before handling the image plates, hands should be completely clean and free of any traces of powder from protective gloves. This powder can damage the optical scanning unit of VistaScan Perio Plus during the scanning procedure of the image plate.

    20.5 Erasing the image data Afterscanning,thecassetteproceedstothe erasureunit.Imagedatastillheldontheimage platewillbeerased.Thecassetteisthentrans- portedintotheoutputunit.Upto3cassettes canthenbeputinarowintheoutputbufferand shouldbepickedupthereassoonaspossible. Special mode "Erase" Theimageplatemustbeerasedagainif: •theimageplatehasbeenstoredandnotused forlongerthan24hours. •Theimagedataontheimageplatehasnot been(completely)erasedduetoamalfunction oftheVistaScanIntra.(Errormessagefrom software) Thespecialmodeactivatestheerasure unitoftheVistaScanIntra.Noimage datawillbetransmittedtothesoftware.
