Jump-starting

The wires leading to the
power socket do not have
a load-capacity rating adequate
for jump-starting the engine. Ex-
cessively high current can lead
to a cable fire or damage to the
motorcycle electronics.
Do not use the onboard socket
to jump-start the engine of the
z
motorcycle.
A short-circuit can result
if the crocodile clips of
the jump leads are accidental-
ly brought into contact with the
motorcycle.
Use only jump leads fitted with
fully insulated crocodile clips at
both ends.
Jump-starting with a donor-
battery voltage higher than
12 V can damage the motorcycle
electronics.
The battery of the donor vehicle
must have a voltage of 12 V.
Make sure ground is level and
firm and park motorcycle.
Removing seat (
38).
Remove cover 1 from battery
support point.
Begin by connecting one end
of red jumper cable to battery
support point of your motorcy-
cle and other end to positive
battery terminal of other vehi-
cle.
Then connect one end of
black jumper cable to suitable
grounding point on your
motorcycle (e.g. screw 2) and
other end to suitable grounding
point or negative battery
terminal on other vehicle.
Run engine of donor vehicle
during jump-starting.
Start engine of motorcycle with
discharged battery in usual
way; if engine refuses to start,
wait a few minutes before re-
peating attempt to protect
starter and supporting battery.
Allow both engines to run for
several minutes before discon-
necting jumper cables.
First disconnect jumper ca-
ble from negative terminal or
ground support point, then
from positive terminal or bat-
tery support point.
