Streaming - Transmission over a data network. The client side buffers a few seconds
of audio data before sending it to the speakers, compensating momentary delays in
packet delivery. Streaming audio also lessens the impact on an organization's LAN.
TAPI - UNIVERGE UM8500 uses Microsoft's Telephony API as its primary telephony
signaling interface. With TAPI, Microsoft has defined function calls for features
common to most telephone systems.
TAPI 3.0 - TAPI 3.0 is an evolutionary API providing convergence of both traditional
PSTN telephony and IP Telephony. IP Telephony is an emerging set of technologies
which enables voice, data, and video collaboration over existing LANs, WANs, and
the Internet.
TCP/IP - Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the Internet's networking
protocol that provides communication across interconnected networks, between
computers with diverse hardware architectures and various operating systems.
VPIM - Voice Profile for Internet Messaging, a proposed Internet messaging protocol
to allow disparate voice messaging systems to automatically exchange voice mail
over the Internet.
