Troubleshooting the Rider
PROBLEM
Engine will not turnover or start.
Engine starts hard or runs poorly.
Engine knocks.
Excessive oil consumption.
Engine exhaust is black.
Engine runs, but rider will not drive.
Rider steers hard or handles poorly.
Note: For all other problems, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
Troubleshooting the Mower
PROBLEM
Mower cut is uneven.
Mower cut is looks rough.
Engine stalls easily with mower engaged.
Engines runs and rider drives, but mower will not cut.
Note: For all other problems, contact an Authorized Dealer.

LOOK FOR
Brake pedal not depressed.
Out of fuel.
PTO switch is in ON position.
Cruise control engaged.
Engine flooded.
Battery terminals require cleaning.
Battery discharged or dead.
Wiring loose or broken.
Fuel mixture too rich.
Low oil level.
Using wrong grade of oil.
Using wrong grade of oil.
Too much oil in crankcase.
Dirty air filter.
Choke closed.
Ground speed control pedals not depressed.
Transmission release lever in PUSH position.
Parking brake is engaged.
Improper tire inflation.
LOOK FOR
Rider tires not properly inflated.
Engine speed too slow.
Ground speed too fast.
Engine speed too slow.
Ground speed too fast.
Dirty or clogged air cleaner.
Height-of-Cut set too low.
Engine not up to operating temperature.
Starting mower in tall grass.
PTO not engaged.
REMEDY
Fully depress brake pedal.
If engine is hot, allow engine to cool, then refill the
fuel tank.
Place in OFF position.
Move knob to NEUTRAL/OFF position.
Disengage the choke.
Refer to Clean the Battery and Cables .
Charge or replace battery.
Visually check wiring. If wires are frayed or broken,
see authorized dealer.
Clean air filter.
Check/add oil as required.
Refer to the Check and Add Engine Oil section.
Refer to the Check and Add Engine Oil section.
Drain excess oil.
Refer to the Service the Air Filter section.
Open choke.
Depress pedals.
Move into DRIVE position.
Disengage parking brake.
Refer to the Check Tire Pressure section.
REMEDY
Refer to the Check Tire Pressure section.
Set to FAST throttle.
Slow down.
Set to FAST throttle.
Slow down.
Refer to the Service Air Filter section.
Cut tall grass at maximum Height-of-Cut during first
pass.
Run engine for several minutes to warm up.
Start the mower in a cleared area.
Engage PTO.
