Table 22/1: Possible faults, causes and corrective actions (list not exhaustive)
Kendrion Binder Magnete GmbH
Cause
Air gap too large
No voltage applied to brake
Voltage applied to field coil too low
Armature plate blocked mechanically
Damaged rectifier
Damaged field coil
Friction disc thermally overloaded
Air gap too large
Voltage applied to field coil too low
Voltage applied to field coil in unpowered
condition too high (residual voltage)
Armature plate blocked mechanically
Voltage applied to field coil too high
Adjustment error of microswitch
switching point (only brakes with
microswitch)
Damaged microswitch (only brakes with
microswitch)
Air gap too large
Axial armature movement blocked by
hand release feature
Oily or greasy friction surfaces
Broken compression spring

Corrective actions
Check the air gap. Install a new friction disc, if necessary.
Check the electrical connection and correct faults, if found.
Check the field coil supply voltage and correct faults, if found.
Eliminate mechanical blocks.
Check the rectifier and replace it, if necessary.
Check the field coil resistance. Install a new brake, if
necessary.
Install a new friction disc or a new brake, if necessary.
Check the air gap. Install a new friction disc, if necessary.
Check the field coil supply voltage and correct faults, if found.
Check whether residual voltage is applied to the field coil and
correct faults, if found.
Eliminate mechanical blocks.
Check the field coil supply voltage and correct faults, if found.
Check the microswitch switching behaviour and replace the
switch, if necessary.
Check the microswitch. Install a new switch, if necessary.
Check the air gap. Install a new friction disc, if necessary.
Check the air gap. Install a new friction disc, if necessary.
Check the friction surfaces. Install a new friction disc, if
necessary.
Check the spring force. Install a new brake, if necessary.
