MAN Diesel's Alpha Controllable Pitch propeller
On MAN Diesel's Alpha VBS type Controllable
Pitch (CP) propeller, the hydraulic servo motor
setting the pitch is built into the propeller hub. A
range of different hub sizes is available to select
an optimum hub for any given combination of
power, revolutions and ice class.
Standard blade/hub materials are NiAlbronze.
Stainless steel is available as an option. The pro-
pellers are based on 'no ice class' but are avail-
able up to the highest ice classes.

VBS type CP propeller designation and range
The VBS type CP propellers are designated ac-
cording to the diameter of their hubs, i.e. 'VBS2240'
indicates a propeller hub diameter of 2,240 mm.
The standard VBS type CP propeller programme,
its diameters and the engine power range covered
is shown in Fig. 5.18.01.
The servo oil system controlling the setting of the
propeller blade pitch is shown in Fig.5.18.05.
