Prerequisites
• Pentium III-based IBM PC or compatible computer with 512 MB DRAM (1 GB DRAM
recommended), minimum screen resolution of 1024x768, and Windows XP (Service Pack 1 or
later) or Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3 or later) installed.
Step 1
If necessary, install the Cisco Configuration Assistant on a PC to be used to manage the
configuration of the Cisco Unified 500 Series system. For installation information, see the
Getting Started with Cisco Configuration Assistant document at
http://www.cisco.com/go/configassist
Step 2
If necessary, use an RJ45-to-RJ45 Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port of the PC on
which the Cisco Configuration Assistant is installed to a PoE port on the front panel of the
Cisco Unified 500 Series to which this switch is connected.
Launch the Cisco Configuration Assistant. For information, see the Getting Started with
Step 3
Cisco Configuration Assistant document at
CD-ROM that shipped with the product.
Step 4
Use Cisco Configuration Assistant to perform the following tasks. For information, see online
help.
a. Verify that the switch you just installed appears on the Topology View page.
b. Add the Cisco Catalyst Express 520 switch to the Community for this Cisco Unified
500 Series. For information, see online help.
