Installing software from an external, parallel-port SCSI device
This method is useful for providing external SCSI access to the open
controller. In the following example, we use an Iomega Jaz® drive with
Windows NT running on a 1747-OCF open controller. You may need to
adapt this procedure depending on your system setup. You cannot use this
method to boot the open controller.
Requirements
• external, parallel-port SCSI device, such as an Iomega Jaz drive (should
come with appropriate cable and device driver)
• parallel-port floppy drive and cable (available from Automation Value,
LLC, see page 6-6)
• 1747-OCVGA1 or 1747-OCVGAE module, monitor, and keyboard
Steps
1. Connect the external floppy drive to the parallel port of the open
controller.
2. Using the external floppy drive and the disks that come with the Jaz
drive, install the device driver for the Jaz drive onto the native IDE drive
of the open controller.
3. Add the device driver by adding the Jaz drive to the SCSI Adapters List
in Control Panel of Windows NT. The specific driver for this example
was "Iomega Zip Parallel Port/Jaz Traveller Driver."
4. Remove the external floppy and connect the Jaz drive to the parallel port
of the open controller using the cable that comes with the device.
5. Reboot the open controller and go to BIOS setup. In Peripheral Setup,
change the onboard parallel port mode to SPP.
For more information, see the documentation that comes with the SCSI
device.
