4. Operate the starter.
RECOIL STARTER
Pull the starter grip lightly until you feel resistance, then pull
briskly. Return the starter grip gently.

Do not allow the starter grip to snap back against the engine.
Return it gently to prevent damage to the starter.
ELECTRIC STARTER (applicable types):
The electric starter w ill be connected to a rem ote control on the
equipm ent pow ered by this engine. Refer to the instructions
provided w ith the equipm ent for rem ote control inform ation.
Turn the engine sw itch key to the START position, and hold it
there until the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start within 5 seconds, release the engine
sw itch key, and w ait at least 10 seconds before operating the
starter again.
Using the electric starter for more than 5 seconds at a time will
overheat the starter motor and can damage it.
When the engine starts, release the engine sw itch key, allowing
it to return to the ON position.
5. If the control lever w as m oved to the CHOKE position to start the
engine, gradually m ove it to the M AX. or M IN. position as the
engine warm s up.

instructions provided w ith that equipm ent for rem ote control
information.

STOPPING THE ENGINE

To stop the engine in an em ergency, sim ply m ove the control
lever to the OFF position. Under norm al conditions, use the
follow ing procedure.
1. M ove the control lever to the OFF position.
The control lever shown here will be connected to a rem ote
control on the equipm ent pow ered by this engine. Refer to the
instructions provided w ith the equipm ent for rem ote control
information.

2. Turn the engine sw itch to the OFF position.
There m ay be a rem ote engine sw itch mounted on the
equipm ent pow ered by this engine. Refer to the instructions
provided w ith the equipment for remote control information.
3. Turn the fuel valve lever to the OFF position.
