The procedure for re—tighteuiug the lock ring is

Remove wheel from frame.

Remove sprocket side spindle nut: washers
and adjusting cone.

Lift out the sprocket complete with driving
piece and spring.

Knock down tab washer from lock ring slots.
5, "'ith a "C" spanner, tighten lock fing home
as hard as possible (righthand thread). With
a narrow punch. knock the lock washer back
into the lock ring slots.
Rc-insert conical spring, narrow end first.
Replace sprocket and driving piece assembly.
Refit adjusting cone, washers and nuts.
Replace wheel in frame.
The foregoing may be necessary after some 250
to 750 miles have been covered.
After a lengthy
period involving some thousands of miles, the wheel
bearing adjusting cone will need adjustment due
to wear.
Clutch.
It has not been found necessary to provide any
internal adjustment for the clutch, and the only
item to be checked here is the actual control cable,
which after a. long period of use may terid to stretch
slightly. with a consequent increase in the amount of
free movement as indicated at A, Fig. 4. although
the gradual reduction in the thickness of the clutch.
elements with the passage of time may tend to
compensate for this.
If there is insufficient free
movement, the clutch swings may be prevented
from exerting their full pressure on the plates, with
a. consequent liability to slip.
If, on. the other hand,
there is too much play, the clutch will not be entirely
