7.0 Testing a Standard using the Average of One to Three Reference
Watthour Standards. (Counting Pulses)

Equipment Needed:

• RM-111 Automated Comparator
• One, two or three Radian RM or RD Primary Reference Watthour
Standards
• One, two or three Standards to be tested (Device Under Test,
D.U.T's)
Important:
The *J-44 and *IB-10 can not be tested using pulse counting unless the standards are tested
under the Test Meter option of the RM-111 RUN TESTS menu. This is due to the pulses per
equivalent revolution of the induction standards. A test of 1000 revolutions would be necessary
for one pulse per equivalent revolution if the Test Standard option was used. When the J-44
and IB-10 are tested under the Test Meter option, test times are greatly decreased while the
accuracy is maintained. Test duration is determined by the user defi ned number of revolutions.
The RM-111 then compares and calculates the results. Please note that the J-44 and IB-10 can
be tested using any of the test standard gating options.
Test Steps:
1. Make the appropriate connections so that the standard(s) under test (DUT) and the RM or RD
Primary Reference Standard(s) are powered from the same voltage and current source.
2. Apply test voltage, current and auxiliary power. At the point, the RM or RD Reference Standard(s)
should be counting.
• Connect all standard pulse outputs to the RM-111.
