Defeating the Unit Door
Interlock
1
Operator Handle and Unit Interlock
The operator handle is an integral part of each MCC unit. Adjustment of the
handle is not required. The operator handle is interlocked with each unit door
as outlined by UL 845.
Opening the Door when the Operating Handle is in the
ON/I Position
Follow NFPA 70E safety guidelines when working on
ATTENTION
energized equipment.
When the unit door is closed and the operator handle is in the ON/I position,
a defeater screw must be deliberately operated to open the unit door (i.e. open
the door of an energized unit)
The defeater screw is located just below (on units with a vertically mounted
operator handle) or just to the right (on units with a horizontally mounted
operator handle) of the pivot point of the operator handle. To operate the
defeater mechanism and defeat the door interlock while the operator handle is
in the ON/I position, use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the defeater screw
clockwise one-eighth to one-quarter turn. See Figure 7.1 and Figure 7.2.
