EXAMPLE - COMMAND LINE INTERFACE (CLI)
SETTING TAP AND MONITOR PORTS continued
Command Line Interface (CLI) Syntax
For the connections in Figure 46 to be properly set, use the syntax below in the Command Line Interface (CLI)
to setup input and output for Tap and Monitor ports. As the IP Address is set during the initial installation it will
not be covered in this section. See the Hardware Installation section of your unit for those steps. The connec-
tions in Figure 46 are setup in the CLI as shown below (syntax is shown with either > or # prompts):
1. Open the HyperTerminal or Telnet application on your Management PC. Connection settings for either are
found at the beginning of the Management/Serial Ports - Command Line Interface (CLI) section.
2. Press <Enter> key, <Enter> key, then enter your user name (default: Administrator) and password (default:
admin).
3. Then enter Superuser mode, at the prompt>, enter SU, <Enter> key, and enter the password (default:
password).
4. Now you are in Superuser mode (the prompt should be #) and must use the following syntax for the
different connections. This syntax sets the outputs for Monitor ports as well as the inputs/outputs for Tap
ports.
The default configuration has Ports 1 and 2 hard-wired as an inline tap which defaults to sending their
input to output Ports 3-10. To ensure there are no previous settings present, go through Ports 3-10 and
set them to OFF as shown:
#SET PORT MONITOR 3 OFF
#SET PORT MONITOR 4 OFF
4. Now you can begin setting the Tap and Monitor ports as to which port inputs the data and which ports
aggregate and/or output the data.
Port 1 is set as output for Port 3 input/output which is set with this syntax:
#SET PORT MONITOR 1 FROM 3
Port 3 is set as output for Ports 1 and 2's input/output which is set with this syntax:
#SET PORT MONITOR 9 FROM 1,2
Port 4 is set as output for Ports 1, 2, 3, and 4's input which is set with this syntax:
#SET PORT MONITOR 10 FROM 1,2
40
