Receiver·
The receiver is the component in which the quan-
tity of refrigerant required to provide a steady
flow to the expansion valve is filtered, desic-
cated and stored.
The VIR assembly is provided with a sight glass
which shows if there is sufficient refrigerant in
the system. The service outlet for the low-pres-
sure side of the system is located at the top of
the VIR assembly.

Clear sight glass - system correctly charged or
overcharged
Occasional bubbles - system not fully charged
Heavy stream of bubbles - serious shortage of re-
frigerant
Oil streaks on glass - no refrigerant in system
Dark or clouded sight glass -contaminants pre-
sent
