Appendix A
USB to Serial Adapter
Many computers today are equipped with USB ports rather
than serial (pin) ports. If your computer has a USB port, you
may use a USB to serial adapter to complete the communica-
tions cabling for direct connect setup. (An adapter and
instructional CD may be purchased from ADP upon request.)
A driver must be installed onto your computer in order for the
USB to serial adapter to function.
1. Insert the installation CD into the CD drive of your com-
puter. The install program will begin to run automatically.
Follow the simple instructions on the screen to complete
installation of the driver.
2. Plug the USB to serial adapter into the 9 pin serial port on
the back of your computer.
3. The presence of the adapter will be acknowledged by your
computer. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen
to complete the installation process.
Note: For details on the installation process, see the Read Me
file that is displayed upon opening the installation CD.
4. Upon successful installation of the USB to serial adapter,
follow the instructions on page 16 to complete the communi-
cations cabling for direct connect, using the USB to serial
adapter as the 9 pin communication port on the back of
your computer.
Note: The provided USB to serial adapter software does not
support Macintosh systems. See product instructions for
supported Windows operating systems.
