Once your computer is restarted, if you have a USB port you can safely plug in the USB cable. The Serial cable can be plugged
in at any time.
You should have a brief pop-up message from the Hardware Wizard.

You can now start the Imaging program by Kodak®, or the PaperPort ® SE 8.0 by ScanSoft®
