• Timing chain tensioner rod
Damage/wear → Replace the defective
part(s).

INSTALLING THE CYLINDER HEAD

1. Install:
• Cylinder head gasket
• Dowel pins
2. Install:
• Cylinder head
• Cylinder head bolts
Cylinder head bolt "1"
35 Nm (3.5 m·kg, 25 ft·lb)
Cylinder head bolt "2"
35 Nm (3.5 m·kg, 25 ft·lb)
Cylinder head bolt "3"
38 Nm (3.8 m·kg, 27 ft·lb)
Cylinder head bolt "4"
10 Nm (1.0 m·kg, 7.2 ft·lb)
Cylinder head bolts "1"
Length: 135 mm (5.31 in)
Cylinder head bolts "2"
Length: 145 mm (5.71 in)
TIP
• Lubricate the cylinder head bolt "1" and "2"
threads and mating surface with molybdenum
disulfide grease.
• Lubricate the cylinder head bolts "3" threads
and mating surface with engine oil.
• Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the proper
tightening sequence as shown and torque
them in two stages.

3. Install:
• Camshaft sprocket
• Timing chain

a. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise.
b. Align the "I" mark "a" on the AC magneto rotor
with the stationary pointer "b" on the AC mag-
neto cover.
c. Align the "I" mark "c" on the camshaft sprock-
et with the stationary pointer "d" on the cylin-
der head.
d. Install the timing chain "1" onto the camshaft
sprocket "2", and then install the camshaft
sprocket onto the camshaft.

TIP
• When installing the camshaft sprocket, be sure
to keep the timing chain as tight as possible on
the exhaust side.
• Align the pin on the camshaft with the slot in
the camshaft sprocket.
