2. Fill:
• Brake fluid reservoir
(with the specified amount of the recom-
mended brake fluid)

WARNING
• Use only the designated brake fluid. Other
brake fluids may cause the rubber seals to
deteriorate, causing leakage and poor
brake performance.
• Refill with the same type of brake fluid that
is already in the system. Mixing brake fluids
may result in a harmful chemical reaction,
leading to poor brake performance.
• When refilling, be careful that water does
not enter the brake fluid reservoir. Water
will significantly lower the boiling point of
the brake fluid and could cause vapor lock.

NOTICE
Brake fluid may damage painted surfaces
and plastic parts. Therefore, always clean up
any spilt brake fluid immediately.
3. Bleed:
• Brake system
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM" on page 3-24.
4. Check:
• Brake fluid level
Below the minimum level mark → Add the
recommended brake fluid to the proper level.
Refer to "CHECKING THE BRAKE FLUID
LEVEL" on page 3-21.
5. Check:
• Brake pedal operation
Soft or spongy feeling → Bleed the brake sys-
tem.
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM" on page 3-24.
6. Adjust:
• Parking brake cable end length "a"

a. Slide back the rubber cover "1".
b. Loosen the locknut "2".
c. Turn the adjusting nut "3" in direction "b" or "c"
until the specified brake cable end length "a"
is obtained.
Parking brake cable end length
57 mm (2.24 in) or less
d. Tighten the locknut "2".
e. Set the parking brake lever and wait more
than 5 minutes.
f. Release the parking brake lever.
g. Loosen the locknut "2".
h. Turn the adjusting nut "3" in direction "b" or "c"
until the specified brake cable end length "a"
is obtained.
Parking brake cable end length
56–58 mm (2.20–2.28 in)
i. Tighten the locknut "2".
j. Slide the rubber cover to its original position.

WARNING
After this adjustment is performed, lift the
rear wheels off the ground by placing a block
under the engine, and spin the rear wheels to
ensure there is no brake drag. If any brake
drag is noticed perform the above steps
again.
