Type Numbers and Combinations
Type 480 Pneumatically operated piston actuator with
integral Type 3570 or 3570C valve positioner.
Type 481 Pneumatically or hydraulically operated piston
actuator without positioner for on-off service. Tapped
cylinder cover provided for loading upper side of piston.
External switching valve must be provided.
Type 489 Hydraulically operated piston actuator with a
Type 3579 solenoid manifold in place of positioner.
Loading pressure is supplied and exhausted by electrically
operated solenoid valves. Travel is proportional to duration
of electrical impulse.
-12 Construction Size 20 piston actuator assembled with
universal mounting flange and integral clevis stem
connector. For mounting on Design U Spec 6 valves.
.15 Construction Size 20, 30, 40. or 60 piston actuator
assembled with universal mounting flange. A Type 480-15
is shown in figure 1.
-16 Construction - 8" stroke size 40. 60 or 80 piston
actuator assembled with universal mounting flange.
The table below lists actuator specifications.
Installation
Inspect this equipment on arrival to note any damage which
may have occurred in transit. If the actuator is attached to
a valve body when received, install the valve in the pipeline
with flow in the direction of the arrow on the body. Some
butterfly valves can be installed with flow in either
direction and are not marked as to proper flow direction.
If Fisher piston actuators are used to operate equipment
other than Fisher equipment, a suitable mounting plate and

appropriate linkage connection between the piston rod of
the actuator and connecting arm of the equipment must be
provided.
The size 20 actuators have four 318"-16 UNC tapped holes
on a 2.718" bolt circle in the cylinder flange (key 1, figures
5 and 6) for mounting. Sizes 30,40. and 60 actuators have
four holes tapped l/2"-13 UNC on a 3-718" bolt circle in
the cylinder flange. The cylinder flange of the size 80 Series
480.16 has four mounting holes tapped 314"-10 UNC on a
5112" bolt circle.
