Problems that can affect emission
If you notice any of the following symp-
toms, have your outboard motor inspected
and repaired by an authorized Tohatsu ser-
vice dealer before further use.
Hard starting or stalling immediately
after starting
Rough idling
Misfiring/backfiring under load
Afterburning (backfiring)
Black exhaust smoke or increased fuel
consumption

Replacement Parts
The emission control system in your

designed, built, and certified to conform
with the EPA and California emission regu-
lations. Whenever requesting mainte-
nance, use of Tohatsu Genuine parts is
highly recommended. Tohatsu Genuine
parts constitute replacement parts manu-
factured to the same high standards as the
original parts, thus guaranteeing uninter-
rupted high performance of your outboard
motor. The use of replacement parts other
than Tohatsu Genuine parts could jeopar-
dize the effectiveness of the emission con-
trol system.
Tohatsu, as a manufacturer of aftermarket
parts, assumes the responsibility that
replacement parts will not adversely affect
emission performance. The manufacturer
or rebuilder of the replacements parts

must certify that use of the parts will not
result in a failure of the engine to comply
with these regulations.
