OPERATION

7.2 OPERATOR PRESENCE AND SAFETY INTERLOCK SYSTEM

1.
The operator presence system controls the primary drive clutch. The engine can be started but drive
cannot be engaged until the operator presence system has been engaged (see 6.1). When the
primary drive is engaged the machine will move forward, the cylinder will only rotate if the cylinder
clutch is engaged (see 6.5). When the handle grips are released the machine will come to a stop,
with the engine still running.
2.
Perform each of the following tests to ensure the operator presence system is functioning properly.
Stop the test and have the system inspected and repaired if any of the tests fail as listed below:
With the engine running and the handle grips released, the machine should not move forward and the
cylinder should not rotate.
Engage the Operator Presence system (see 6.1), once the machine is moving release the handle
grips. The machine should come to a controlled stop with the drive and cylinder (if engaged) to a
stop, with the engine running.
3.
Refer to the chart below for each test and follow the check ( ) marks across the chart. Shut engine
off between each test.
Test 1: (This simulates normal cutting operation) With the engine running and the cylinder clutch
engaged. When the Operator Presence System is engaged the cylinder should rotate and the
machine will be driven forward.
Test 2: With the engine running and the cylinder clutch engaged. With the Operator Presence
System disengaged the cylinder will not rotate and there will not be driven forward.
Test 3: (This simulates transportation of the machine) With the engine running and the cylinder clutch
disengaged. When the Operator Presence System is engaged the cylinder will not rotate and the
machine will be driven forward.
Test 4: With the engine running and cylinder clutch disengaged. With the Operator Presence System
disengaged the cylinder will not rotate and the machine will not be driven forward.
