12. STOVE MAINTENANCE
Boru Stoves recommend your stove is checked and serviced by an accredited engineer at least
once a year
It is very important that your stove is checked regularly for the following:
Creosote: When fuel is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapours, which
combined with expelled moisture form creosote. The creosote vapours condense in the
relatively cool chimney flue of a slow burning fire. As a result, creosote residue
accumulates on the flue lining. When ignited, this creosote creates an extremely hot fire.
Inspect and clean the chimney frequently – under certain conditions of use, creosote build
up may occur rapidly. If creosote has accumulated, it should be removed to reduce the risk
of a chimney fire.
The thermostat flap should be checked regularly making sure it is free from ash build up as
this will prevent the thermostat from working efficiently and may cause a state of over fire.
Establish a routine for the fuel and firing technique, check daily for creosote build up until
experience shows how often you need to clean to be safe. Be aware that the hotter the fire
the less creosote is deposited, the weekly cleaning may be necessary in mild weather even
though monthly cleaning may be enough in coldest months. Contact your local fire
authority on how to handle a chimney fire. Have a clearly understood plan to handle a
chimney fire.
The baffle MUST be removed regularly to check for soot build up, this build up is a fire
hazard and the stove should not be used until the chimney is cleaned by an accredited
person and free from obstruction.
All firing and ash doors must remain closed during firing. All seals (door and glass) must be
maintained in good working order.
It is required that both door and glass ropes are replaced a minimum of once a year.
Failure to follow guidance in this manual will result in the extended warranty being void.
THE USE OF SUBSTITUTE MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS MAY RESULT IN POOR PERFORMANCE
AND A DANGEROUS CONDITION. TO MAINTAIN YOUR EXTENDED WARRANTY YOU MUST USE
GENUINE REPLACEMENT BORU STOVES PARTS.
