Safety Notes Safety Precautions against Kickback and Pushback Always keep the saw chain sharp. This will ensure a high level of safety against kickback and throwback. Removal of any safety devices, inadequate maintenance or incorrect mounting of the guide bar and saw chain will increase the safety risk and lead to serious injuries due to kickback.
Preparation and Use Changing the Attachments and Mounting the Auxiliary Handle The different attachments are slipped into the motor unit and secured. Remove the protective cap from the shaft of the attachment. The safely catch must lock into slot on the attachment. Push down the safety cover and secure the connection with the wing nut.
Never use oil for 4-cylinder engines. Do not mix the petrol and the oil directly in the fuel tank. Use a special mixing canister with indicated mixtures as available from Westfalia. Open the cap of the fuel tank (24). Pour in the mixture into the tank (8) and tighten the cap only hand tight.
Preparation and Use Starting the Engine Pump the primer bulb (23) repeatedly until the bulb is filled with fuel mix. Pull the start/stop switch (17) to the rear position. Place the unit on the ground and hold it firmly. Use the choke (21) when starting a cold engine. The choke is active with the choke lever in the upper position.
The Pole Saw Assembling the Pole Saw ATTENTION! The teeth of the saw chain are sharp! Wear gloves when handling the saw chain! Place the saw chain with the guides engaged in the slot of the guide bar. Guide the chain over the drive sprocket and attach the guide bar. The chain tensioning device must lock into the corresponding hole in the guide bar.

Only use biodegradable chain oil (e.g. Westfalia Biological Adhesive, article number 76 63 78). Pour the chain oil into the oil tank (8). Do not use motor oil or other mineral oils.
The Pole Saw Guide Bar When the guide bar dismounted, remove sawdust in the bar rail. Lubricate the nose sprocket from the feeding port on the tip of the guide bar. Reverse the guide bar occasionally to prevent partial wear.

The String Trimmer Assembling the String Trimmer Always separate the string trimmer attachment from the motor unit before undertaking any assembly or maintenance! The spool housing is attached to the drive shaft with left hand threads. Use one of the included hex keys to arrest the driveshaft. Insert the key from the side through the hole in the protective sleeve of the shaft.
The String Trimmer Assembling the String Trimmer Attachment Use the included screws to attach the string cutter to the safety hood. Attach the safety hood itself to the shaft tube with the included screws and nuts. Before the first use pull the strings out of the spool housing until they almost reach the safety hood.

The spool housing is attached to the drive shaft with left hand threads. Use one of the included hex keys to arrest the driveshaft. Insert the key from the side through the hole in the protective sleeve of the shaft.

Finally, snap the cover of the spool housing back into place. Housing with Inserted String Reattach the spool housing to the shaft. Please keep in mind the housing is attached with left hand threads. Strings can be purchased from Westfalia or from specialized retailers.
The Brush Cutter Working with the Brush Cutter Wear solid shoes and eye protection, the cutter blade may throw loose objects into the air quite violently. Use the brush cutter only with attached safety hood. Mounting the safety hood is described in the description of the string trimmer.
Maintenance After Extended Use This maintenance should be performed every 15 – 20 hours of operation, but at least once per season of use! Maintenance on the Motor Unit Air Cleaner Open the air filter cover (20) by turning the wing nut counter clockwise and remove the cover.

Transport, Cleaning and Storing Advice for Cleaning, Transporting and Storing the Attachments Cleaning Clean the outside of the units carefully with a cloth and a brush. Do not use abrasives or aggressive chemicals to clean the unit. Regularly remove grass and residue from the units. Grass residue inside the protective hood may be very compact.
