  • Page 6 ® The NETGEAR Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem Model DM200, in this manual referred to as the modem, supports autodetection for universal DSL support. The modem is compatible with most major broadband DSL Internet service providers and supports VDSL2 and ADSL2+.You can connect the modem directly to a computer, router, or WiFi router.

    Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem Model DM200 Connect to the Modem With an Ethernet Cable During and after installation, you can connect your computer to the modem using an Ethernet cable and join the modem’s local area network (LAN). If you set up your computer to use a static IP address, change the settings of your computer so that it uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

The product package contains either an ADSL or DSL microfilter. Use a phone cable to connect the microfilter to the gray DSL port on the modem.

  • Page 25: Use The Internet Setup Wizard After Initial Setup

    You can use the Setup Wizard to detect your Internet settings and automatically set up your modem. Note The Setup Wizard is the same as the NETGEAR installation assistant, which launches the first time you connect to your modem. The Setup Wizard can detect the type of ISP connection and presents pages on which you can you enter the required information.

If you cannot find this information, contact your ISP.

If you cannot find this information, contact your ISP. Entering incorrect information might prevent the modem from connecting to the Internet.

    Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem Model DM200 Manage the WAN Security Settings The WAN security settings include port scan protection and denial of service (DoS) protection, which can protect your LAN against attacks such as Syn flood, Smurf Attack, Ping of Death, and many others. By default, DoS protection is enabled and a port scan is rejected.

Typically, you do not need to add static routes. You must configure static routes only for unusual cases such as when you use multiple routers or multiple IP subnets on your network.

    Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem Model DM200 Disable the Modem’s Routing Features and Use the Modem as a DSL Modem Only By default, the modem functions as both a modem and a router with a limited number of routing features. You can change the operation mode to a mode in which the modem functions as a DSL modem only (also referred to as bridge mode) with its routing features such as DHCP and firewall features such as NAT disabled.

    Broadband High-Speed DSL Modem Model DM200 You can now disconnect the computer from the modem and use the Ethernet cable to connect the yellow LAN port on the modem to the WAN port on a router. Connect computers or WiFi devices to the router. On the computer or WiFi device that is connected to the router, log in to the router and set it up.

    The modem firmware is stored in flash memory. You can check to see if new firmware is available and update the modem to the new firmware. You can also visit the NETGEAR support website, download the firmware manually, and update the modem to the new firmware.

    Downloading firmware and updating the modem are two separate tasks that are combined in the following procedure. To download new firmware manually and update your modem: Visit downloadcenter.netgear.com, locate the support page for your product, and download the new firmware. Read the new firmware release notes to determine whether you must reconfigure the modem after updating.

When the upload is complete, your modem restarts. Verify that the modem runs the new firmware version: Launch a web browser from a computer that is connected to the network.

    Change the admin Password If you used the NETGEAR installation assistant to set up the modem, you had to change the default password that you use to log in to the modem to a more secure password. This is the password that you use to log in to the modem with the user name admin.

    Your settings are saved. Set Up Password Recovery If you used the NETGEAR installation assistant to set up the modem, you had to enable password recovery. If you did not use the NETGEAR installation assistant or password recovery is not enabled for another reason, we recommend that you do enable password recovery.
