3 SAFETY

3.1 HOW TO OPERATE SAFELY ____________________________________________

EQUIPMENT OPERATED INCORRECTLY OR BY UNTRAINED PERSONNEL CAN BE DANGEROUS.
Familiarize yourself with the location and proper use of all controls. Inexperienced operators should receive
instruction from someone familiar with the equipment before being allowed to operate the machine.
3.1.1 Safe operation
a)
Read the instructions carefully. Know the
controls and the correct use of the
equipment;
b)
Children or persons who do not understand
these instructions must not use the
lawnmower. The Local regulations can limit
the age of the operator;
c)
Never use a mower near persons, including
children, or animals;
d)
Remember that the operator or user is
responsible for accidents or hazards that
occur to other persons or their property.
e)
Do not carry passengers;
f)
all drivers must get instruction. That
instruction must include:

The need for Careful attention when you
use a ride-on machines;

Control of a ride-on machine that slides on
a slope is not got by the application of the
brake.
The primary reasons for loss of control are:
i)
Not enough wheel grip;
ii)
Being driven too fast;
iii)
Not enough brake use;
iv)
The type of machine is wrong for the job;
v)
No awareness of the results of ground
conditions which include slopes;
vi)
Incorrect hitch and load distribution.
3.1.2 Preparation
a)
when you operate a mower, always wear
strong footwear and long trousers. Do not
operate the equipment without shoes or
wearing sandals;
b)
completely inspect the area where the
equipment is to be used and remove all
objects that can be ejected by the machine;
c)
WARNING - Petrol is very flammable.

Store fuel in containers specially for this
purpose;

3.1.3 Operation

NOTE, the published angle is calculated as shown

Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke
when you add fuel;
Refuel the machine before you start the
engine. When the engine is in operation, do
not remove the cap of the fuel tank or add
petrol if the engine is hot;
If you spill petrol, do not try to start the
engine, but move the machine away from
the area. Do not allow any means of
ignition until petrol vapor's have been
removed;
Replace all fuel tank and container caps
correctly;
Replace silencers with defects;
Visually inspect the machine before you
use, to see that the blades, blade bolts and
cutter assembly are not worn or damaged.
Replace worn or damaged blades and
bolts in sets to keep balance;
On machines with many blades, be careful
when you rotate one blade, it can cause
other blades to rotate.
Do not operate the engine in a closed
space where dangerous carbon monoxide
fumes can increase to dangerous levels;
Use a mower only in daylight or in good
artificial light;
Before you start the engine, disengage all
blade attachment clutches and shift into
neutral;
Do not use on slopes of more than the
published angle;
in EN 836 4.2.4.2.3.2.
Remember there is no safe slope. Travel
on grass slopes needs special precaution.
