Installing and upgrading internal modules and
FRUs
This chapter describes how to install and upgrade internal modules and FRUs.
The following internal modules are available:
VPM
VCPM
ESM
One CF card is supplied with the router.
WARNING!
To avoid bodily injury and device damage, make sure that all power sources to the router are
disconnected before servicing any router hardware. Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and
maintain good skin contact with the wrist strap's conductive surface

Opening and removing the chassis cover

CAUTION:
The HP tamper-proof label attached to a mounting screw on the router chassis must be kept intact.
Before opening the chassis cover, contact HP Support for authorization; if you do not, you take full
responsibility for all operation and maintenance failures.
To open the A-MSR20 chassis cover:
See the following figures, which show removal of the chassis cover:

Power off the router.

Disconnect the power cords and network cables.
3.
Place the router on a flat workbench.

Using a Phillips screwdriver:

Remove the fastening screws on both sides of the router.
a.
Remove the fastening screws on the upper edge of the rear panel.

Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the key holes on both sides of the chassis, and gently pry the

cover until it is separated from the chassis.
Pull the chassis cover backward part way, and then lift it up at an angle to completely separate it

from the chassis.
