MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

LH SIDE OF ENGINE
1. Spark plug
Spark Plug Installation
Prior to installation make sure that con-
tact surface of cylinder head and spark
plug is free of grime.
Using a feeler gauge, set the spark plug
gap to 0.8 mm.
Apply anti-seize lubricant over spark
plug threads to prevent a possible
seizure.
Screw spark plug into cylinder head by
hand and tighten with a torque wrench
and a proper socket.
Torque

11 N•m ± 1.1 N•m.

Battery

CAUTION Never charge a bat-
tery while installed in vehicle.
These vehicles are equipped with a
VRLA battery (Valve Regulated Lead
Acid). It is a maintenance-free type
battery, there is no need to add water
to adjust electrolyte level.
NOTICE
Never remove the battery
sealing cap.

Battery Removal
CAUTION Always respect this
order for disassembly; disconnect
BLACK (-) cable first.
Disconnect BLACK (-) cable first then
RED (+) cable.
Remove the holding strap.
Remove battery from vehicle.
Battery Cleaning
Clean battery, battery casing, cables
and battery posts using a solution of
baking soda and water.
Remove corrosion from battery ca-
ble terminals and battery posts us-
ing a firm wire brush. Battery top
should be cleaned by soft brush and
any grease-cutting soap or baking soda
solution.
Apply dielectric grease (P/N 293 550
004) or an equivalent on battery posts
to protect against oxidation.
Battery Installation
Reinstall battery in vehicle.
CAUTION Connect RED (+) ca-
ble first then BLACK (-) cable. Al-
ways connect RED (+) cable first.

Fuses

The electrical system is protected with
fuses.
If fuses are damaged, replace them by
one of the same rating.
NOTICE
Do not use a higher rated
fuse as this can cause severe dam-
age.
