Service Diagnostics and procedures–Disassembly
To avoid risk of electrical shock, personal injury, or death, disconnect electrical power to unit using power
switch before servicing. Wires removed during disassembly must be replaced on proper terminals to insure
correct earth ground and polarization. After servicing, reconnect power using power switch.
5. Disconnect wiring on both ends of heater.

6. Release clips to remove heater.
7. Repair or replace defrost heater.
8. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

WARNING

Defrost Thermostat

The defrost terminator is a bimetal switch that is
normally open. When the temperature drops below
20˚F ± 5˚, the defrost thermostat closes. This will
allow voltage to flow to the defrost heater.
Once the freezer section reaches 42˚F ± 7˚, the
terminator opens and power to the heater is broken.
To access defrost thermostat:
1. Remove freezer drawer, baskets, and glide

pages 39-42).
2. Remove evaporator cover (see Evaporator
Cover section, page 47).
3. Disconnect wiring and unclip thermostat.
4. Repair or replace defrost thermostat.
