GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CAR
latch. If the pulling motion is interrupted while extending the belt, it may
be necessary to fully retract the belt (until the belt tongue rests against the
retractor cover) to release the stop mechanism in the lap portion of the
belt.
ADJUSTING LAP PORTION-Adjust lap portion of belt SNUGLY
ACROSS THE HIPS (never across the waist) by allowing any excess belt
to return into the retractor.
ADJUSTING SHOULDER PO RTI ON2..The
shoulder
restraint portion of
the belt adjusts
automatically
to a snug position. The inertia 'reel attached
to the shoulder portion allows freedom of movement, locking tight only
on hard braking or impacts from the front of approximately5 mph or
more. The reel cannot be made tolock by jerking on the webbing.
To relieve pressure
on
your
shoulder
after the belt
is
fastened, pull
a
small
amount of belt ou t ofthe retractor
and slide the "comfort clip" up
against the
roof~mounted
belt guide.
CLIP
CAUTION-An adjustment that results in more slack than isrequired in
order to insert a fist between the shoulder belt and the
chest
reduces the
restraint system effectiveness.
IF YOU SHOULD JAM THE
LAP~BELT
RETRACTOR-The retractor
can become jammed if the webbing is twisted while you are returning it
to the reel. Follow this procedure if ajam occurs:
1. Use both hands to tighten the webbing on the retractor
spo'
o l by pull-
ing
it all the way out.
2.
Push the webbing into the retractor until the belt is completely retract-
ed, then repeat step 1
if
necessary.
3. Pull the belt out of the retractor as far as it will go and inspect for
foreign material or twisting.
4. Remove the foreign material or untwist the belt and let the belt retract.
5.
Sit inthe seat, pull out the lap belt and buckle up: Repeat
about
five
times to make sure the belt
retractor
operates properly.
