Maintenance
of
batteries in
service
Dry charged
batteries,
once
given a booster charge
or
received wet. are maintained as
follows:
at least
once a
moolh,
lop up with
distilled
wat·
er
(never acid)
to
5
mrn above the
plates,
with the
battery
horizontal
and at rest;
keep the
terminals
clean
and
tight
and smeared
with
petroleum
jelly;
keep the lop
oIlhe
battery
dry,
avoiding acid
spillage,
wnich
would damage
the
Insulation and
corrode
the
battery
brac
kets
and
hOusing;
make sure
that the
motorcycle
battery
c
harging
circuit
does
not
give
excessive or
insufficient

rent,
bearing

mind thet the acid specific gravity
should be between

If
it
isn't, then

heck
the
insulation
and
efficiency

and starter

Headlight

To replace
the
headlight
bulbs,
disconnect
the
wir-
ing
from behind the lamp
unit,
remove protective
rubber boot

out
bulb

spring

After installation,
check
that no other wires have
been accidentally diSCOflnected (especially the
parl<.ing
light
wires).
The parking light and holder

are push
fitted.
Tail Light
(fig.

Undo
reflector

push,
tum and withd-
raw
the
bulb from its
holder.
Front Turn Signal Lights
(fig.

Undo
screws

securing
the turn signal lens to the
front cowling, and remove
the
lens.
The bulbs
are
puch
fits.
Rear Tu,n Signal Lights
(IIg.

The
lurn
signal lenses are
snap
fits.
They can
be
re-
moved
by
levering a screwdriver
in
the recesses In-
dicated by arrows.
The
bulbs
can
then be
replaced.
Speedometer,
Odometer,
Tachometer,
Voltmeter,
and
Panel Indicator Lights
Pull
out
the bulb
holders to
replace the
bulbs.
