Removing the top cover

Refer to the following illustration while you perform the steps in this procedure.
Attention: If the server is on, do not leave the top cover off for more than 30
minutes at a time.
To remove the server top cover:
4. Note the location of the remaining cables and cords; then, disconnect them
from the back of the server.
1. Read "Safety information" on page 39 through "Handling static-sensitive
devices" on page 43.
2. Unless you are installing or removing a hot-swap or hot-plug component, run
the shutdown procedure for the operating system, turn off the server and all
attached devices, and disconnect all external cables and power cords (see
"Preparing to install options" on page 48).
3. Lift the plastic cover-release latch 1 near the edge of the top cover 2 .
4. Lift the top cover off the server and set the cover aside.
