MAINTENANCE
INSTRUCTIONS
6.6. Engine Preservaion
Engine preservation
should be carried
out in case
that
the engine
will not be
operated for more
than 14 days.
The
preservation
is
good
for
one
month
and
may be
repeated
up to
a total
period of
6 months. Should the
engine be
stored for a
longer period, the
preservation
should be
removed, the engine should
be started, warmed
up
and operated
for 20
minutes at
1 600 to 2 000 rpm.
A new
preservation
of
the
engine
should be completed
afterwards. Preservation
is always carried
out after an
oil change and with new oil.
Preservation procedure is the following:
- warm the engine up and stop it by means of shutting off
fuel
- remove the
spark plugs and inject
engine oil into all
cylinders
so that
the cylinder
walls are
completely
wetted by oil
- turn the engine manuailly several turns
~
clean the spark plugs, apply an oil coating and replace
them
- blind
all
appertures,
the
'exhaust
manifold, vent.s,
inlet, etc.
- apply oil or preservation
grease to all bearings, ball
joints carburetter controls and unprotected metal parts
- it
is recommenCled
to protect
the engine
by means of
a canvas cover
To remove engine preservation all plugs used for blind .l.:lg
appertures
in
course
of
the
preservation
should
be
removed. The
engine 'is then prepared
identically to the
preparation for first starting.
6.7. Winter Operation
Before
starting operation
of the
engine in
the winter
season an
inspection of the daily
service extent should
be carried out.
Besides carry out the following:
- inspection of spark plugs for good condition
~
inspection of ignition timing for correct adjustment
The
engine
has
to
be
properly
adjusted.
No special
measures are necessary.
In
case
that
recommended
oil
temperatures
canot
be
reached
during
operation
of
the
engine
in
low
temperatures it is appropriate to decrease section of air
inlet
to
the
crankcase
to
approimately
one
third,
eventually to shut the air inlet off completely, to avoid
oil undercooling.
