5.0. Operating Instruction
Observing instructions for operation
and maintenance is a prerequisite
for engine operational reliabi
ty.
5.1.
Before Starting the Engine

- Daily Service completed

Open throttle
and check throttle
lever for free
motion within full
range of its travel
Open choke,
check for free
motion within full· range of travel
and
shut choke
Turn the propeller by hand for
several revolutions and make sure the
starting spark boost mechanism is operating properly
Check for any irregular sound or engine turning resistance reason

Adjust engine speed to 1 000 rpm as soon as-the engine starts. Shut the
choke and make sure that oil pressure is indicated within 10 seconds.
Starting
of the
M III
A
engine
is accomplished
by turning
of the
propeller on the ground and the MIll AE engine by pulling at the
starter lever. If the engine is equipped wi th both magneto's without
starting spark boots mechanism, if is necessary to switch on the
starting buzzer when starting theeingine.
It
is
appropriate,
when
starting
a
cold
engine
in
low
ambient
temperatures, to provide for a slight fuel excess by turning the engine
several
times with
ignition
magne~tos'
swi tched
O~F
and the fuel cock
OPEN, eventually to inject fuel into the inlet manifold
by
means of the
acceleration pump actuated.by repeated rapid opening of the throttle.
Preheating the engine
and oil tank by means of
hot air is recommended
in ambient air temperatures N=low - 5 deg. C.
