BF75D/80A/90D/100A is 4-stroke,
water cooled outboard motor which
uses unleaded gasoline for fuel (see
page 62). It also requires the engine
oil. Check the following before
operating the outboard motor.
Perform the following
pre-operation checks with the
engine stopped.
Before each use, look around and
underneath the engine for signs of oil
or gasoline leaks.

• To remove, raise the front and rear
engine cover fixing levers and
remove the engine cover.
• To install, set the engine cover,
hook the front and rear latches, and
push down the front and rear
engine cover fixing levers.
Do not operate the outboard motor
without the engine cover. Exposed
moving parts can cause injury.
6. PRE-OPERATION CHECKS
Engine Oil
• Engine oil is a major factor
affecting engine performance
and service life. Nondetergent
and low quality oils are not
recommended, because they have
inadequate lubricating
properties.
• Running the engine with
insufficient oil can cause serious
engine damage.

Use Honda 4-stroke oil or an
equivalent high detergent, premium
quality motor oil certified to meet or
exceed U.S. automobile
manufacturer's requirements for API
Service category SG, SH or SJ.
Motor oils classified SG, SH or SJ
will show this designation on the
container.
