STARTING THE ENGINE
• The starter motor consumes a
large amount of current. Do not
therefore run it continuously for
more than 5 seconds at a time. If
the engine does not start within 5
seconds, wait at least 10 seconds
before running the starter motor
again.
• Do not turn the engine switch key
to the START position while the
engine is running.
• The "Neutral Starting System"
prevents the engine from being
started unless the control lever is
set in the N (neutral) position even
though the engine is cranked by the
starting engine.
• When the boat is mounted with two
outboard motors, perform the
above procedure on the right and
left outboard motors respectively.

COOLING WATER
CHECK HOLE
COOLING WATER INTAKE PORT
(each side)
4. After starting, check whether the
cooling water is flowing out of the
cooling water check hole. Amount
of water flowing out of the check
hole might vary due to the
thermostat operation, but this is
normal.
If water does not flow out, or if
steam comes out, stop the engine.
Check to see if the screen in the
cooling water intake port is
obstructed and remove foreign
materials if necessary. Check the
cooling water check hole for
clogging. If water still does not flow
out, have your outboard motor
checked by your outboard motor
dealer. Do not operate the engine
until the problem has been
corrected.
