OPERATION
<Over-rev Limiter>
This outboard motor is equipped with
an engine over-rev limiter which
activates when the engine speed
increases excessively. The over-rev
limiter can be activated while
cruising, tilting up the outboard
motor, or when ventilation occurs
during a sharp turn.
When the over-rev limiter is
activated:
1. Reduce the throttle opening
immediately and check the trim
angle.
2. If the trim angle is correct but the
over-rev limiter stays activated,
stop the engine, check the
condition of the outboard motor,
check to see if the correct propeller
is installed and check it for
damage.
Correct or service as necessary, by
contacting your authorized Honda
outboard motor dealer.

<Anode>
ANODE (each side)
The anode is a sacrificial material
which helps to protect the outboard
motor from corrosion.
Painting or coating the anode will
lead to rust and corrosion damage
to the outboard motor.
There are also 2 small sacrificial
anodes in the water passages of the
engine block.

Shallow Water Operation

Excessive trim/tilt angle during
operation can cause the propeller
to raise out of the water and cause
propeller ventilation and engine
over-revving. Excessive trim/tilt
angle can also damage the water
pump and overheat the engine.

ANODE

When operating in shallow water, tilt
(stern bracket)
the outboard motor up to prevent the
propeller and gear case from hitting
the bottom (refer to pages 105 and
106). With the outboard motor tilted
up, operate the outboard motor at low
speed.
Monitor the cooling water check hole
for water discharge. Be sure that the
outboard motor is not tilted so high
that the water intakes are out of the
water.
