BRAKE PEDAL ____________________________________________________________

Adjust brakes after replacing or servicing brake
assembly, or if pedal travel becomes excessive.
1. When installing new brake pads, burnish pads by
driving mower at mowing speed while applying a
slight pressure on brake pedal for about 5 seconds.
Release and repeat five times before making the final
adjustment.
2. With parking brake disengaged, measure length of
spring.
3. Engage parking brake and measure spring length
again.
4. If difference in spring length is between 0.125 and
0.175 in. (3.1 and 4.4 mm), brake is properly
adjusted.
5. If difference in spring length is less than 0.125 in.
(3.1 mm), then loosen nut (C), and tighten nut (D).
6. If difference in spring length is grater than 0.175 in.
(4.4 mm), then loosen nut (D), and tighten nut (C).
7. Recheck spring length.
8. Repeat for second cable.
9. Start mower and check operation of brakes. Park
mower on an incline (approx. 16.7° slope) and

PARKING BRAKE SWITCH __________________________________________________

Check parking brake switch adjustment whenever
Interlock System is not operating correctly. Switch
contacts should be closed with parking brake engaged
and should open when parking brake is disengaged.
1. Loosen parking brake switch hardware (D).
2. Adjust switch (E) as required so switch contacts
close with the parking brake engaged, and open
when parking brake is disengaged.
ADJUSTMENTS
engage parking brake. Brake must prevent mower
from rolling. Adjust as required.
