Using the Device

Operation
This chapter explains the control panel, basic settings, handling the cartridges.
The device can be used under two different modes, the ON LINE and USER
modes. In ON LINE mode, the device is controlled through SCSI commands
from the host computer. In USER mode, the device is controlled with the
buttons on the front panel of the S-AIT library. See "Operation Modes" on page
24 for details.
ON LINE mode
This mode allows you to control the device through the host computer. Refer to
the SCSI documentation for details about how to develop connectivity or
application software.
USER mode
This mode allows you to control the device with the control buttons on its front
panel.
Caution
• Do not turn off the device when it is in ON LINE or USER mode as this may
damage the media, data on the media, and/or internal mechanical parts.
• When you power off the library, refer to "Turning the Unit On or Off" (page
26).
