No air flows through the hea ter and defroster
ducts when the "OFF" button is
depressed.
Depressing the "NORMAL" button causes
outside air to be discharged from outlets
in the heater duct and defroster nozzles.
Defroster air is cooler than heater air at
this setting for breathing comfort.
To de-ice the windshield, push the "DE-ICE" button. This directs a
majority 9f outside air entering the car through the defroster nozzles
to the windshield dearing it of ice. Once the windshield has been
cleared of ice the air control may be returned to
"NORMAL".
Temperature Control-The temperature inside the car with the
heater operating is set and maintained by the
"TEMP"
lever. As the
"TEMP" lever is depressed the temperature of the air discharged from
the heater increases. Maximum heater temperature is reached when
this lever is fully depressed and the dial opening
above
the lever is
completely red.
NOTE: The "TEMP" control automatically
re~ulates
the temperature of
the air
dischar~ed
from the heater and defroster by use of a thermostatic
device. With the new 1958 heater, depress the "TEMP" control to maximum
when first entering a cold car. Once the temperature inside the car has
risen to a comfortable temperature, adjust the "TEMP" lever to the position
which will maintain the desired heat level. The above procedure must be
repeated each time a cold car is entered .
.
Fan Control-The fan or blower is operated by the lever marked
"FAN" located to the right of the "TEMP"
lever.
It aids in circulating
air for the heater and defroster when set at the "LO" or
"HI"
position.
The fan
should
be used when the car is driven slowly or is
stopped,
to
speed up de-icing of the windshield, to prevent fogging of the windows
when carrying several passengers, or to provide forced air ventilation
when it is necessar; to keep the car windows closed while driving in a
summer rainstorm. The blower should also be used when maximum
heater output is desired.
NOTE: Under very adverse weather conditions, window
def~~ing
or wind-
shield
de-icin~
may be improved by opening a door window approximately
VB
inch.
