Symptom
Optional serial scanner
does not operate.
No sound is heard when
you tap the touchscreen
or press a key.
Missing pixels on the
display.
COM1 or COM2 port is
not working.
No response when
ActiveSync is initiated.
No keys are working on
the optional or built-in
keyboard.
COMM LED is off.
Possible Cause
Scanner is not properly connected to
the vehicle computer.
DataWedge application is not enabled
or set to the correct COM Port.
External power is not connected.
Volume is turned down.
Application currently running disabled
the sound.
Faulty speaker.
The optional external speaker cable is
connected without the speaker.
Faulty LCD.
Another application, ActiveSync or
SerialWedge is using the port.
ActiveSync cable not connected
properly.
ActiveSync is not configured properly.
The optional keyboard is not properly
connected to the vehicle computer.
The application does not require
keyboard input.
Vehicle computer is not responding.
Lost network connection.
COMM LED is turned off.

Action
Connect the scanner to the COM1 port. Ensure
the proper COM port is selected in the
DataWedge application, see DataWedge
Scanner Connection on page 4-1. If the
problem continues, refer to the scanner
Product Reference Guide.
Ensure that the DataWedge application is
enabled and set to the correct port. See
DataWedge Scanner Connection on page
4-1.
Verify external power connection.
Adjust the volume in the Control Panel.
Configure the application to enable the sound.

Connect the external speaker, or, disconnect
the cable.

Stop the application using the port, disconnect
the ActiveSync cable from the host, or change
the SerialWedge COM Port Settings.
Connect the ActiveSync cable.
Configure ActiveSync in the Control Panel. See

Check the cable connections between the
keyboard and the vehicle computer.
Configure the application to use the keyboard.
Warm boot the vehicle computer.
If problem continues, contact Symbol support.
