materials beyond the minimum clearances. Comply with
all minimum clearances to combustibles as specifi ed in
this manual. Overlapping materials could ignite and will
interfere with proper operation of doors and louvers.

other combustible materials directly onto the factory-
installed non-combustible board. Overlapping materials
could ignite.
Decorative facing material thickness is measured from
the face of the factory-installed non-combustible board.
See Figure 13.6 and Figure 13.7.
The mesh front can be installed such that it overlaps non-
combustible materials up to 25 mm (1 in.) thick. See Fig-
ure 13.8 and Figure 13.9.
Refer to Section 1.E and 1.F of this manual for defi nition
and qualifi cations and defi nition of non-combustible and
combustible materials.
Specifi c requirements for each method if installation are
described below and on the following pages of this section.
Non-Combustible Finish Materials
0 - 1 inch thickness-Overlap Fit Method
The mesh front is designed to overlap fi nish materials 0
inches to 1 inch thick. See Figure 13.8.
NOTICE: This one inch maximum not only includes the
decorative fi nish materials (marble, tile, slate, etc) but
also the thin set, lathe and adhesive used to attach the
decorative fi nish material.
The non-combustible fi nish material can be installed up to
the 406 mm (16 in.) (height) by 1092 mm (43 in.) (width)
fi replace opening.
