Chapter 5. Error Code to FRU Index

Attention:
Start your activity in this chapter by going to "Checkpoint and Error Code Index" on page 161.
In this table, you may be asked to perform additional procedures before looking up the actions for a
4-character checkpoint or 8-character error code.
The Error Code to FRU Index lists fault symptoms and possible causes. The most likely cause is listed
first. Use this index to help you decide which FRUs to replace when servicing the system.
v If you replace FRUs or perform an action and the problem is still not corrected, go to "MAP 1540:
Minimum Configuration" on page 110 unless otherwise indicated in the tables.
v If you replace FRUs or perform an action and the problem is corrected, go to "MAP 0410: Repair
Checkout" in RS/6000 and Eserver pSeries Diagnostic Information for Multiple Bus Systems.
Note: Do not shut down the system if the FRU was replaced by hot swap.

Four-Character Checkpoints

Four-character progress codes and checkpoints in the form 8xxx, 9xxx, Axxx, Bxxx, and Exxx are listed in
"Firmware Checkpoints" on page 144. If you have a four-character code that begins with any character
other than 8, 9, A, B, or E, refer to the RS/6000 and Eserver pSeries Diagnostic Information for Multiple
Bus Systems.

Replacing the Primary Drawer Operator Panel

Licensed programs frequently rely on system information that is stored in the VPD module on the primary
drawer's operator panel. If the MAPs indicate that the operator panel should be replaced, the pluggable
VPD module must be swapped. If the old module is defective, or cannot be recovered, contact service
support.

Replacing the Network Adapter

If a network adapter is replaced, the network administrator must be notified so that the client IP addresses
used by the server can be updated. In addition, the operating system configuration of the network
controller may need to be changed in order to enable system startup. Also check to ensure that any client
or server that accesses this system is updated.
