Problem
An older software version
continues to boot instead
of the newer version on a
PC card or TFTP server.
You have forgotten your
password
You are unable to access
the configuration
commands in the CLI.
Configuration changes do
not seem to be taking
effect.
Configuration changes are
not reinstated after a
reboot.
The Series 8100fl Switch is
not resolving DNS names.
An SNMP manager cannot
access the Series 8100fl
Switch.
You are unable to ping a
certain host.
Solution
Refer to the Management and Configuration Guide for
procedures on how to configure the Series 8100fl Switch to
boot using newer software.
If you forget your system-level password, you can recover it
by entering boot variables to skip the startup configuration
so that the switch boots up with the factory default settings.
If you forget your UNIX password, it can be reset from
privileged mode by entering the username command to
reconfigure the root password.
In both cases, call your ProCurve Networking-authorized
LAN dealer or use the electronic support services from
ProCurve Networking to get assistance.
Enter the enable command to access the Privileged Exec
mode, then enter the configure command to access the
Configuration mode.
Use the procedure in
"Saving and Using the New
Configuration" on page 3-4
to activate the changes.
Use the procedure in
"Saving and Using the New
Configuration" on page 3-4
to save the configuration
changes to the Startup configuration file.
Use the procedure in the Management and Configuration
Guide to set up DNS.
If you have already performed this procedure, make sure you
can use NS lookup on the DNS server to get the default
domain.
Use the procedure in the Management and Configuration
Guide to set up an SNMP community string and specify a
target for SNMP traps.
If you have already performed this procedure, enter the show
snmp community command to check the SNMP settings.
Use the traceroute and ping commands to verify that the
Series 8100fl Switch can reach the SNMP management
station.
Create and add an IP interface for the host. See the
Management and Configuration Guide for information.
