DANGERS:

• N everattempttoconvertthewaterheaterfromnatural
gastoLP.Thewaterheatermustonlyusethefueltype
inaccordancewithlistingondataplate—naturalgas
fornaturalgasunitsandLPforLPunits.Anyotherfuel
usagewillresultindeathorseriouspersonalinjuryfrom
fireand/orexplosion.Thiswaterheaterisnotcertified
foranyotherfueltype.
• B othnaturalgasandpropane(LP)haveanodorantadded
toaidindetectingagasleak.Somepeoplemaynot
physicallybeabletosmellorrecognizethisodorant.If
youareunsureorunfamiliarwiththesmellofnatural
gasorLP,askthegassupplier.Otherconditions,such
as"odorantfade,"whichcausestheodoranttodiminish
inintensity,canalsohideorcamouflageagasleak.
• W aterheatersusingLPgasaredifferentfromnatural
gasmodels.Anaturalgaswaterheaterwillnotfunction
safelyonLPandviceversa.
• L Pmustbeusedwithgreatcaution.Itisheavierthanair
andwillcollectfirstinlowerareas,makingithardto
detectatnoselevel.
• B eforeattemptingtolightthewaterheater,makesure
tolookandsmellforgasleaks.Useasoapysolution
tocheckallgasfittingsandconnections.Bubblingat
aconnectionindicatesaleakthatmustbecorrected.
Whensmellingtodetectagasleak,besuretoalsosniff
nearthefloor.
• G asdetectorsarerecommendedinLPandnatural
gasapplicationsandtheirinstallationshouldbe
inaccordancewiththedetectormanufacturer's
recommendationsand/orlocallaws,rules,regulations,
orcustoms.
• C ombustiblematerials,suchasclothing,solvents,
cleaningmaterials,orflammableliquids,mustnotbe
placedinthevicinityofthewaterheater.
• I fagasleakispresentorsuspected:
–Donotattempttofindthecauseyourself.
– N everuseanopenflametotestforgasleaks.The
gascanigniteresultingindeath,personalinjury,or
propertydamage.
– F ollowthestepslistedunder"What to Do If You
Smell Gas"foundonthefrontcoverofthismanual.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
WARNINGS:

• The installationofgaspipingmustconformtolocal
utilitycompanyrequirementsand/orintheabsenceof
localcodes,usethelatesteditionofNationalFuelGas
Code(NFGC),ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54,orCAN/CSAB149.1,
NaturalGasandPropaneInstallationCode.
• I nstallagaspressureregulatorinthegassupplyline.
Theregulatorshouldnotexceedthemaximumsupply
pressure.DONOTuseanindustrial-typegasregulator.
• S houldoverheatingoccurorthegassupplyfailtoshut
off,turnoffthemanualgascontrolvalvetothewater
heater.
CAUTIONS:

• D onotattemptrepairofelectricalwiring,gaspiping,
remotecontrol,burners,ventconnectors,orothersafety
devices.Referrepairstoqualifiedservicepersonnel.
• T urnoffthemanualgasshut-offvalveifthewaterheater
hasbeensubjectedtooverheating,fire,flood,physical
damage,orifthegassupplyfailstoshutoff.
• D onotturnonthewaterheaterunlessthewaterandgas
suppliesarecompletelyopened.
