Water Supply Safety
DANGERS:

control.Watertemperaturesabove
125°F(52°C)cancausedeathor
severeburnsfromscalding.Besure
toreadandfollowthewarnings
outlinedonthepicturedlabel.
• T hereisahotwaterscaldpotential
ifthewatertemperatureisset
toohigh.Householdswithsmall
children,thedisabled,orelderly
personsmayrequirea120°F(49°C)
orlowertemperaturesettingto
preventcontactwith"HOT"water.
• B eforemanuallyoperatingtherelief
valve,makecertainnoonewillbe
exposedtothedangerofthehot
waterreleasedbythevalve.The
watermaybehotenoughtocreate
ascaldhazard.Thewatershould
bereleasedintoasuitabledrainto
preventinjuryorpropertydamage.
• F ailuretoperformtherecommended
RoutinePreventiveMaintenance
canharmtheproperoperation
ofthiswaterheater,whichcan
causecarbonmonoxidedangers,excessivehot
watertemperatures,andotherpotentiallyhazardous
conditions.
WARNINGS:
• I MPORTANT:DonotapplyheattotheHOTorCOLDwater
connections.Ifsweatconnectionsareused,sweat
tubingtoadapterbeforefittingadaptertothewater
connectionsonheater.Anyheatappliedtothewater
supplyfittingswillpermanentlydamagetheinternal
componentsofthewaterheater.
• I ncasethepipeinsulationisnotratedforthe
appropriateweatherconditions,installelectricheat
tracingorequivalenttopreventfreezingofthepipes.
Donotinsulateorblockthedrainvalveonthehotoutlet
fitting.Ifthepipesareallowedtofreeze,thewater
heaterandthepipesmaymalfunctionorleakdueto
freezingwater.
• F ailuretodrainthewaterheaterasdescribedonpage
20cancauseseriouspersonalinjuriesfromscalding
and/ordamagethewaterheater.

CAUTIONS:

conditions:

corrosivechemicals,sand,dirt,orother
contaminants.
– W ithinletwatertemperaturesabove32°F
HOT
(0°C),butnotexceeding120°F(49°C).
– D ONOTreversethehotandcoldwater
connections.Thewaterheaterwillnot
operate.
BURN
• E venwhendrainedproperly,asmallamount
ofwaterwillremaininthewaterheater.
Incoldweatherconditions,thiswatercan
freeze.Ifthishappens,allowthedefrost
protectionontheheateratleast30minutes
tomeltthefrozenwaterorthewaterheater
maynotworkproperly.
NOTICE:
operatingtemperaturesbetween100°F
(38°C)and120°F(49°C).Temperaturesof
85°F(29°C)andupto140°F(60°C)canbe
achievedwiththeMAIN(UMC-117)remote
control.Temperaturesof85°F(29°C)canbe
achievedwiththeBath(USC-117orUSC2-
117)remotecontrol.Onlyqualifiedservice
personnelshouldperformthisadjustment.Onlyfactory-
authorizedremotecontrol(s)shouldbeused.
