Trouble Shooting guide (VCR)

Symptom
"Power On" does not work.
It does not work even in "Power On".
A videotape is not recognised.
On inserting a videotape, the tape is
re-ejected.
The videotape is not ejected.
A channel on video and a play screen
does not appear.
Not tuning in to a picture tunable to
playback recording.
No picture on VCR channel.
Noise appears on screen after
playback of recording.
While in play, noise appears.
Picture poor/noisy in play
Sound and screen are irregular.
Sound comes out but picture does not
appear.
Picture is irregular and stripes appears.
"Error" message is displayed on screen.
While playback recording, the top of
picture waves about.
Picture is not clear.
Picture at pause is unstable or slow
motion is not clear.
Checks
Please check whether the power plug is inserted in to the mains
socket .
Please check whether a videotape is inserted in.
Switch off and reinsert plug into mains socket.
Please check whether the power plug is inserted in to the mains socket.
Please check whether a videotape was inserted.
Please check whether a videotape is inserted the correct way up!
(The side of transparent window should be on the upside)
Have you input a videotape again just after the tape was ejected?
Please try again after fully ejecting.
This is a safety mode to protect the videotape and is operated
automatically. Please pull out the tape and put it in again.
In case the product has not been used for a long time, the videotape
may not be ejected the video film inside may be stretched. In this case,
please pull out the power plug for about 10mins and then press
"EJECT" button.
Please check your antenna's connection.
TV channel should be tuned to the unit on a vacant programme
number video channel.
Please check your antenna's signal it may be weak. If signal is weak
contact aerial specialist.
Press "TV/VCR" and then ensure "VCR" is displayed on the display panel.
Is VCR turned on?
Select TV by pressing [TV/VCR] button on remote control.
Whilst playing a videotape, there may be some noise experienced in
the beginning of the videotape or when resuming "PAUSE". This
NOT a fault
Please press "TRACKING" for improved picture. Videotape may be
worn. Try to change it for another one.
Please use a head-cleaner to clean VCR heads. VCR heads may be
contaminated.
Since VCR Play signals are not stable like a TV signals, screen may
be unstable or curved while on playing. To fix the problem, ensure
you are tuned in to the 'VCR' programme channel no. alternatively
connect via scart lead+select A/V or TV.
In case videotape is recorded by another/incompatible product or
old faulty unit, stripes may appear on the screen.
Try to adjust the screen by [TRACKING+/-] button
Try to use a head-cleaner.
Try to use a head-cleaner.

If 2 head machine then this symptom is not a fault!
