Stack Configuration

STEP 1
Cisco 500 Series Stackable Managed Switch Administration Guide
All the units in the stack must run the same software version (firmware and
bootcode). Each unit in a stack will automatically download firmware and
bootcode from the master unit if the firmware and/or boot code the unit and the
master are running are different. The unit will automatically reboot itself to run the
new version.
This section describes how to configure a standalone device, a stack, and devices
in the stack. For additional information regarding stack related hardware options,
see the Quick Start Guide.
System Mode and Stack Management
From the
following:
Change a standalone device to stacking mode.
Change the stacking mode, the stack unit ID, stack ports, and the bit rate of
the stack port of the devices in a stack.
Change the Layer 2/Layer3 system mode of a standalone or a stack.
Stack Settings
To configure the stack at the stack level:
Click Administration > System Mode and Stack Management. The
Mode and Stack Management
The operational status of a standalone device or a stack is displayed in the
Operational Status block:
Stack Mode—Displays that the stack/standalone devices are operating in
L3 and L2 mode.

Standalone—Device is not part of a stack.

Native Stacking—Device is part of a stack.
Stack Topology—Displays which topology is in use with the stack, Chain or
Ring.
